Hi, I’m Isla. I wrote a story about a boy and a girl who fall in love and move to Mexico and don’t live happily ever after. It isn’t a fictional story, it’s a collection of raw and real entries from the journal I kept as I went through the shock, grief, and loneliness of my break-up, alone in another country. It’s both the chronicle of a long healing journey and one long love poem to Mexico, as I kept restlessly moving from city to city in my attempt to forget the past and create a new self-mythology. I offer this private peek inside my broken heart not because I think I’m particularly special, on the contrary. After many conversations with other broken-hearted people, I realize we are all the same. We want true love and we want peace and it hurts like hell when we can’t have it. If you’re hurting like hell, you are very welcome here.

Who will enjoy this book? Those with broken hearts, those going through a break-up, hopeless romantics, poets, nomads, people curious about Mexico, those who already love Mexico, those who have mistaken ideas about Mexico. Also the young and young at heart, the playful, the brave, the wandering and wondering, Libras, Scorpios, Sagitarriuses, and Capricorns. Really, anyone with a heart.
